While Jefferson street is pretty quiet, a historical food spot is a great reason to take time to check it out! Manny’s was established in 1942 and is still in it’s orginial location. It’s unique style of serving food “cafeteria” style makes this eating experience unlike any other! Start by grabbing yourself a tray and slide it on the counter, while ordering a great sandwich! While you’re there, try out their famous corned beef sandwich. You can add cheese, sauerkrat, cole slaw, and a potato panacake, all at a small extra cost! They also offer daily specials, salads, and deilcious desserts!
When entering Manny’s you can see the history throughout. The walls are filled with newspaper clippings involving the restaurant, including President Obama’s visit to the restuarant. Obama has shared a long time affection for Manny’s, being captured eating there numerous, including twice with the former Chicago mayor, Richard M. Daley. Even governor Rahm Emanuel has held events at this famous restaurant, so you know you are in good company!
According to users on Yelp customers has described Manny’s as having “old school charm and friendly staff make this a must visit” and “The food at Manny’s is very good, I’ve been going to this place for years. It’s a classic restaurant in Chicago that everyone should try at least once”. Manny’s is open Monday through Saturday, and serves breakfast, lunch, and new edition, dinner. It’s also available for catering, as well as renting space for fundraisers, charitiy events, birthdays, and graduations. Rahm Emanuel has even hosted a fundrasining events there! An addition to selling food they also selll sourveniors including gift cards, cookie baskets, and even apparel. All this and more is why this family tradition is worth sharing!
